Peter Gabriel will be presented with the 2008 Ambassador of Conscience Award at London's Hard Rock Cafe on September 10th. The presentation will coincide with the launch of the Amnesty International 'Small Places Tour' which Peter was instrumental in conceiving. Artists young and old will be on hand to witness the presentation of the Award - a Fender Amnesty International acoustic guitar - and the parchment Ambassador of Conscience Award citation.
The Ambassador of Conscience Award was inspired by Nobel Literature Laureate Seamus Heaney's poem, 'From the Republic of Conscience,' written for Amnesty International. The Award ceremony, one of the premier events on the Amnesty International calendar, is a project of Art for Amnesty. The Ambassador of Conscience Award recognises exceptional leadership and witness in the struggle for human rights.

Amnesty International marks the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with the ‘Small Places Tour’. Inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt’s call for ‘concerted citizen action’ in her famous “small places” speech in 1958, musicians and fans will raise their voices in song and action in venues, cities, towns, communities, neighborhoods and workplaces.
